Abstract:

This study explores how the participation of the elderly in theater can promote job opportunities in the theater industry, and the theory of creative aging proves that theater participation is beneficial to physical and mental health. Six types of elderly individuals, such as audience members, performers, students, story providers, drama therapy participants, and volunteers are encouraged to participate in participate in public-funded or self-funded theater projects depending on their personal health status and their own financial capabilities.

This study presents the creative aging theory and drama theory by means of literature review, and uses the participant observation method to explore the actual situation of Taiwan’s elderly theater participation and the current situation of Taiwanese theater industry case situation. The study also uses in-depth interviews to summarize how the theater industry’s companies use elderly individuals’ theater participation to obtain more job opportunities, and used the social innovation theory to divide elderly theater participation into “theater commodity” and “theater participation channel.”

The theater products in this study were divided into two types: theater courses and theater programs. Compared with watching theater programs, elderly individuals participating in theaters courses not only gain experience and learn from diverse perspectives, but also obtain more reasonable salaries for the theater industry. This study advocates that theater courses should be listed as the focus of theater promotion as the government should set the educational qualifications for instructors teaching theater courses, and formulate regulations for vocational training education systems to improve the quality and range of theater. This will aid the promotion of theater courses and facilitate the theater industry to obtain job opportunities from these theater courses.

In terms of theater participation channels, the public can participate in theater through theater troupes, theater venues, bureaus of public departments, social welfare organizations, and ticketing systems. The government and theater industry should also develop three major areas of health promotion, integration with tourism, and app creation. The implementation of these three areas should be to: establish the public’s concept of creative aging and formulate relevant policies for creative aging to promote elderly participation in theater, promote elderly participation in theater through tourism, and promote the elderly participation in theater through Apps.
